Margaret Michelle Phillips Whitledge

Margaret Michelle Phillips Whitledge, 76 of Savannah, GA passed away November 28, 2025 after a long illness. 

She was born May 2, 1949 in Savannah to the late Mr. John A. Phillips, Sr. and the late Mrs. Margaret Applewhite Phillips. She spent her childhood on Isle of Hope running wild through Wormslow Plantation and the marshes of the area. Some of her fondest memories were chasing her brother Johnny around the island. She was a 1967 graduate of Herschel V. Jenkins High School, and attended Georgia Southern College, now Georgia Southern University where she earned her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. While at Georgia Southern she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She was a faithful Eagle and enjoyed many Saturdays cheering her Eagles on. 

Michelle was a teacher in the public school system for over 45 years, teaching most of her career as a second grade teacher in the Chatham County Public Schools including the following schools, Windsor Forest Elementary, Isle of Hope Elementary, and Southwest Elementary. 

She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Robert A. Phillips and Dr. John A Phillips, Jr. her sister Jude Phillips Smith and her brother in law Joseph Smith.

She is survived by her son Patrick Whitledge and his wife Kami, her two grandsons Miller and Jackson Whitledge all of Savannah, her sister in laws Harriet Phillips and Suzanne Phillips and many nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to specially thank her faithful friends Mrs. Cheryl Ganem and Mrs. Rosie Taylor for their dedicated weekly visits to Michelle this last year, her special high school friends Nancy, Carolyn, and Kathy, along with friend Marie Schenk. We would also like to give thanks to the nursing staff of Hospice Savannah for their compassionate care these last few months.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday December 5, 2025 at 11:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
